The Big Music Survey Needs You!

You’re standing in a packed, dimly lit venue, the bass is shaking the floor, it probably smells a bit, the crowd is alive, and for a few hours, nothing else matters.

That’s the magic of live music. But what happens when these independent venues, our sanctuaries of sound and musicking start disappearing?  I have written lots about this, but last week a major survey was launched which could prompt a positive change.

We all know how (in the UK), independent music venues are shutting down at an alarming rate, and it’s not just a blow to the music industry, it’s a serious hit to our meaning, mental health and community. These spaces are more than just places to watch bands; they’re emotional lifelines for so many people.

For artists, it’s just as damaging. Small venues are often where we find our voice, test new material, and build confidence. Without them, the creative pipeline is choked, leading to frustration, isolation, and loss of purpose, factors that are well-known triggers for mental health struggles. I still mourn for the loss of the Square in Harlow or the London Astoria, these places held such special memories for me. I’m sure we all have memories of special places that are no longer there.

The solution? Well, now's your chance to make it count! The Music Fans' Voice survey has just launched, and it's all about giving you a say in the future of live music across the UK. Whether it's ticket pricing, choosing which gigs to attend, or the overall concert experience, this survey wants to hear your thoughts.

This isn't just another survey. It's a collaborative effort backed by major players and those other mayor type people, alongside several other city councils. The goal? To gather genuine feedback from fans to help shape decisions in government and the music industry, ensuring live music thrives and evolves in a way that benefits us all.

By spending about 15 minutes on this survey, you're not just voicing your opinions, you're influencing the future of live music. Your insights will help improve audience experiences, support live music venues, and hopefully ensure that the live music scene remains vibrant and inclusive.

Head over website (link below) and take the survey. It's quick, easy, and your responses are anonymous. Plus, after completing it, why not spread the word? Share the survey with fellow gig-goers and keep the momentum going. The more voices heard, the bigger the impact!
