Tonic Rider Workshops

Tonic Rider will be launching three workshops in August: Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Emotional Resilience and Music Performance Anxiety.

As part of the continuing development of the Tonic Rider programme, we are launching three new taught workshops starting in August.

Each workshop will last two hours and attended by up to 12 music professionals.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy

The Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) workshop will be facilitated by Jo Tedbury, a mental health nurse and CBT therapist, who previously worked as an indie club DJ, and can now often be found at festivals, performing with Samba Reggae band Batala Portsmouth. This workshop aims to equip participants with the skills to develop psychological flexibility through a combination of acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behaviour change strategies.

Wednesday 18th August (7:00pm-9:00pm)

Wednesday 13th October (7:00pm-9:00pm)

Emotional Resilience

The Emotional Resilience workshop will also also be facilitated by Jo Tedbury. This workshop aims to equip participants with positive coping skills to develop emotional resilience. Music professionals frequently encounter stressors unique to working in the music industry, both the ACT with psychological flexibility and the Emotional Resilience workshop, will teach participants how to employ these skills in music industry contexts.

Wednesday 25th August (7:00pm-9:00pm)

Wednesday 20th October (7:00pm-9:00pm)

Music Performance Anxiety

The Music Performance Anxiety workshop will be facilitated by Jade Hughes, who co-facilitates our Peer Support Group and Wellbeing Group, alongside coordinating the Tonic Punk Choir. This workshop will explore the triggers of music performance anxiety and techniques to reduce symptoms. Both performing and non-performing music professionals are encouraged to attend, since the workshop is designed to be educational as well as supportive. Music performance anxiety not only arises prior to performing on stage, but also in the recording studio, behind the sound desk and on the air.

Tuesday 31st August (1:00pm-3:00pm)

Tuesday 26th October (1:00pm-3:00pm)
